PiCC United Strategic Supporters Advisory Board

This business model describes how PiCC United grows sustainably, independently and ethically – without compromising the voice, integrity or autonomy of patients.

The model serves as a common reference for:

  • the board and management
  • partners and sponsors
  • collaborating organisations
  • external stakeholders

PiCC United grows through relevance – not volume.

We do not work with mass communication, aggressive visibility or sales logic. Instead, growth is built through trust, professionalism, experience and clear frameworks for collaboration.

Core assumption:

Organisations choose PiCC United because our history, experience and structure show what happens when patient involvement is done wrong – and how it can be done right.

PiCC United is not:

  • a traditional patient association
  • a consulting firm
  • an interest group

PiCC United is:

An independent, international, non-profit knowledge and partnership community that professionalises patient involvement and protects the patient voice through structures, ethics and practice.

The positioning is based on real-life experiences – not theoretical assumptions.

Storytelling is not used as marketing, but as a strategic tool.

PiCC United works with three types of stories:

  1. System stories – consequences of missing or symbolic patient involvement
  2. Process stories – what changes when patient involvement is structured correctly
  3. Choice stories – the ethical and organisational choices that shape the collaboration

The purpose is not to convince, but to create awareness in the recipient.

PiCC United uses a deliberate pull strategy:

  • few, but strategically relevant relationships
  • long-term partnerships rather than one-off projects
  • repeated collaborations based on mutual trust

Examples of forms of collaboration:

PiCC United does not price time, meetings or individual deliveries.

We price:

  • quality of patient involvement
  • ethical and regulatory security
  • risk reduction
  • structures and governance
  • credibility and legitimacy

This ensures that payment always relates to frameworks and responsibilities – not to patient voices or individual stories.

The model is designed to accommodate typical objections such as:

  • ‘It’s not possible in our organisation’
  • ‘We already work with patients’
  • ‘Patient involvement is difficult to measure’

The answers are not found in arguments, but in:

  • clear processes
  • clear boundaries
  • documented methods
  • governance frameworks

PiCC United grows when we:

  1. are re-elected
  2. are recommended by existing partners
  3. are invited into projects and processes at an early stage
  4. are used as a strategic sparring partner – not a supplier

Growth is measured in quality, continuity and trust – not in volume.

This flow describes how organisations naturally move from interest to partnership with PiCC United – without sales dialogue, pressure or volume-based recruitment.

The flow is used equally for sponsors, knowledge partners and strategic partners.

The Sponsorship Board is not:

    • An advisory or governing body with decision-making authority

The Sponsorship Board is:

    • An opportunity to strengthen the patient voice in systemic healthcare development
    • A structured forum for knowledge sharing and mutual learning
    • A transparent, arm’s-length collaboration aligned with NGO and compliance principles
